Sausage and egg

Mozzarella Egg and Kransky Rolls.

This breakfast post is inspired by a bed. Yes, that is kind of weird isn’t it, considering this is a food blog, but this isn’t just any bed.

Bed and food usually equal breakfast in bed and I have that here alright, however there are no girly pancakes or fruit salads and neither is there Bircher muesli or French toast. This is a hold in one hand while reading the paper ( or ipad) kind of breakfast. The kind your Dad might like. Mostly, when we think about breakfast in bed, lets face it it usually involves Mum.

Breakfast-My-Kitchen-Stories

This is quite definitely a Dad breakfast. There will be crumbs, yes of course, and lots of them and maybe drips of tomato sauce. Breakfast in bed for Dad will make far more sense if you are one of my readers from the US or the UK , and a host of other countries around the world, where it is celebrated on the third Sunday in June.

The idea for Father’s Day originated in the United States around 1909, when a very caring lady decided that if there was a Mother’s Day, then there should also be a day for Dad. It took until 1966 before President Lyndon Johnson made it an official day, which is why Dads haven’t had as much practice with breakfast in bed.

This breakfast roll with its garlicky cheesy sausage and its eggy-filled insides will be just what a Dad needs in bed……and that’s where the bed came into this story. Have you heard of Casper?. I hadn’t but when I saw this bed it put a smile on my face. One of those inventions that makes you wonder what you’ve been doing with all of your spare time. ย I saw they were a food obsessed mattress company, wanting to pull together some in bed breakfast recipes and I couldn’t resist joining in. So, I got out the Pane de Casa rolls and whipped up this bed friendly dish.

UntitledThe Casper comes in single, XL single, Queen and King and every one of them comes in the box above. ย I found myself wondering about this straight away, as you probably are now. It’s only available in the US at the moment but that didn’t stop me being completely inspired by the idea. The Casper is delivered in New York by bike courier but in other parts of the US it is shipped for free in 2-5 days, I was thrilled by that but it might just be me. ย Buyers can try the Casper for 100 days and 100 nights and the promise is that if you don’t like it for some reason they’ll send a courier over to pick it up and refund in full. The mattress is then delivered to a local charity. The queen sized mattress weighs 81 pound or about 38 kg. (That’s about a sack and a half of pizza flour in my work world of large wholesale bags) This is the mattress out of the box.

So, back to Breakfast in Bed- Dads love it too…..

The breakfast roll-My Kitchen Stories

It’s easy. Skater ate all four and he’s only nearly a man so I am sure any Dad could polish off a couple of these.

Egg, Mozzarella and Kransky Breakfast Rolls

This is a great breakfast that you can transport anywhere, but it is great in bed. It's more of an idea than a recipe so I encourage you to experiment. This recipe uses Australian cup meauremets
Print Recipe Pin Recipe
Servings: 4
Course: Breakfast, Brunch
Cuisine: Australian
Ingredients Method

Ingredients

  • 4 whole Pane de Casa Rolls. or another nice firm roll
  • 6 whole eggs
  • 125 ml heavy cream 1/2 up cream
  • 200 gram cheese this can be a mixture of mozzarella and cheddar chee
  • 3 whole Cheese or plain kransky sausage or hot dogs or another part cooked sausage
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper

Method

  1. Make an incision into the top of each roll making it wide enough to pull out some of the bread in the centre. This will leave a kind of little bread shoe that will be filled with cheese and egg mixture
  2. Put the rolls onto the oven tray and prepare the filling
  3. Thickly slice the sausages so that you have enough for 3-4 slices for each roll
  4. Whip the whole eggs together in a bowl with the cream and salt and pepper.
  5. Start by filling the rolls with sausage and cheese, then egg by putting a slice of sausage into each roll at the very end standing up. Follow this with a pinch of cheese. This will help the sausage slices stay in place. Follow this with another slice of sausage and some cheese and continue till the rolls have at least 3 slices of sausage each.
  6. Press down on the cheese a little so that when you pour the egg in it has room inside the bread roll.
  7. Pour the egg into a jug and fill each roll with some of the egg mixture. If you don't have a jug use a spoon. Press the mixture a bit with your fingers so that as much egg as possible fits in without moving the sausages around.Clean up some of the egg spillage so your rolls dont stick to the tray.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes for fan forced and 20 for conventional or till done to your liking.

Do you want to see how those mattresses fit into the box. ….?

BTW. My Kitchen Stories has no affiliation with Casper. We just love the idea.

They sound similar to what the kids often make themselves for breakfast using Polish sausage we get from a deli in Roseville. I must admit that mushrooms are my favourite addition, but seeing these here I kind of want one right now. Crusty and warm.

Surely you wouldn’t get crumbs on a mattress this nice! I love your breakfast in bed for dads though – what a clever idea. My kids always made French toast for Mother’s Day breakfast. Why? They loved French toast. ๐Ÿ™‚

It isn’t Father’s day here until September, but back in the UK my Dad will be celebrating on Sunday. So I will send him the link instead of making his breakfast ๐Ÿ˜‰
