Here’s a few Cocktail Food Ideas to have you partying up a storm
The pail above is layered with steamed basmati rice and a medium to mild Indian style chicken curry. Top with yoghurt and herbs.
Here’s a couple of ideas for cocktail food , Sydney style, its all food we’ve served . We mostly forget to take photos in the rush .
Once I used to cater for lots of parties, but these days I have to have my arm twisted by someone very nice in order to get involved in a large project. When I do I try to encourage Skater ( my teenager) to get involved. For reasons that I no longer understand I tried to discourage him from being romanced by a job in the restaurant industry. After long hours and double shifts on weekends I would have a couple of days off with my small boy who often didn’t understand why I left for work in the dark of the morning and got home well after his bed time. He seemed to be intrigued by the kitchen hands, asking lots of questions about what they did. Why I had burns and why I didn’t come home when all the other parents did. “Mummy what do the kitchen hands do?
“Well , they help in the kitchen they wash up and they clean the stoves, because they get very dirty”.
“Why do they clean the stoves when they are just going to get dirty again. They could go home earlier”
A one bite tart inspired by Cumulus Inc in Melbourne. Cubed Ocean Trout in a tart case with goat curd, mint, peas and lemon olive oil
He was able to tell me all of the reasons he should never get a job in a kitchen by 4. This included standing up all day and never being home at night to cook your son dinner. This was when I thought, that just maybe, I should give up working in a restaurant. So it has been a hard job getting him to help me do catering jobs. As he got older I gave him the odd job and he has grown with the responsibilities.
Tostadas with lime avocado, tomato salsa and Chipotle sauce
A couple of months ago I asked him , his girlfriend and another young friend if they would work with me. I thought that Skater would make a great waiter, and this would be good practise for a part time job. Actually, maybe not, I was disappointed he didn’t enjoy having to talk and answer questions about the food and after this photo he scurried to the kitchen, and took over frying the risotto balls and fish pieces.
